From what
I understand, a few of Jamaica’s finest models will train for
3-4 months once the Rules Committee have finalized regulations in the
ring. Remember, “Augie” Lee has repeatedly stated there
will be no women wrestlers in CCW.I think refereeing is a marvellous alternative. These girls
will work hard, but they will be get plenty of exposure to further their
modelling careers. Out of curiosity, I asked a CCW official what these
lovelies will wear in the ring. No, not a black and white striped G-string,
as Lee once suggested during a CCW Thursday night meeting at Jamrock.
More traditional garb will be the norm, and both male and female refs
will be required to wear surgical gloves, much like boxing referees (necessary
in this day and age I suppose).
CCW is getting a lot
of interest from wrestlers all over the world. The office is getting
2-3 audition
videotapes each and every week from
the world’s best non-WWE talent. Including it seems, FORMER WWE
talent!

Interview:
CCW President
Augustus “Augie” Lee
Previous
Lee: I doubt it.
I played bass in several bands travelling up and down Route 95 from
Margate,
New Jersey to Miami. One band, Johnny Bombay and
the Reactions, signed a record deal with Electra. Maxanne Sartori,
the girl who produced The Cars, produced us. But the record company
didn’t
spend a lot of money marketing new acts at the time, so we disappeared
rather quickly. When I felt I was told old to stay in rock and roll,
I went into time-sharing. To this day, I firmly believe time-sharing
is the finest sales training anyone can have. I will always love that
business. It allowed me to live in The Bahamas for almost twelve years.
CCW Mag: For those that don’t
know, exactly what is time-sharing?
Lee: Essentially, its vacation ownership. You prepay for future vacations
in advance, at a frozen cost guaranteed never to go up.
CCW Mag: You mentioned adult web sites . . .
Lee (laughing): More sales
and marketing. I’ve spent the last
three years competing with the thousands of adult sites out there on
the internet, and I like to think I’ve done pretty well doing it.
CCW Mag: What are some of your sites?
Lee: I can’t tell you. The reasons are simple. A great many kids
will be visiting CCW Magazine, and I don’t want to steer them toward
adult material on the internet. But more importantly, I have vowed to
our models that their images will not be available to the Jamaican public,
and that is a promise I want to keep. We spend a fortune blocking Jamaican
IP addresses, and credit cards issued from banks in Jamaica, to insure
our models retain their privacy. In return, we have some of the most
beautiful girls in the country on our sites, since they know their friends
and neighbours will never see them.
CCW Mag: Okay. Can you tell me off the record?
Lee (laughing): No.
CCW Mag: Hmmm. To get back to the subject at hand then. Why do you believe
Jamaica is ready for pro wrestling?
Lee: Not just Jamaica. The
Caribbean is ready for pro wrestling. I have always been amazed at
how many wrestling t-shirts I see in the islands.
Guys are rapid about it here! We did a survey in Portmore over a weekend,
and talked to 849 men between the ages of 18 to 34. An astounding 80%
of men answered said they watch pro wrestling on television. Another
80% said they would go see pro wrestling live if it was held nearby.
27% said they would go more than twice a month! This is a advertiser’s
dream! Our sponsors and advertisers have a totally new way to reach 18
to 34 year old men.
CCW Mag: What about women?
Lee: In the same survey, 63% of women watch it on TV occasionally, and
53% said they would see a live show.
CCW Mag: And kids?
Lee: We didn’t survey
anyone under 18.
CCW Mag: Why? You know tons of kids are excited about CCW.
Lee: True. But its the 18 to 34 male that will fuel the federation,
in much the same way they fuel Dancehall music today.
CCW Mag: What makes wrestling so appealing?
Lee: Athletic competition is probably the most important thing. And
of course, the personalities of the athletes themselves. You will want
to root for some our guys, and want to strangle others.
