In a statement released today, Caribbean Championship Wrestling
(CCW) Founder and President Augustus "Augie" Lee announced there may be " an imposter, operating
in Jamaica", claiming to be affiliated with CCW, and attempting to capitalize on the world-wide reputation
of both Lee and Caribbean Championship Wrestling.
Mr. Lee said, "A gentleman by the name of ‘Julian Rivera’, with whom I’ve never met, has approached world-caliber
pro wrestling talent, claiming to work for Caribbean Championship Wrestling. Apparently, this man is booking a
wrestling show in Jamaica, scheduled for August 27th. CCW does not know who this man is, and he does not represent
CCW in any fashion. Any professional wrestler contacted by Julian Rivera should be aware Rivera does not operate
under the CCW brand."
Lee continued, "Further, the people of Jamaica must be warned. This pro wrestling show advertised as a CCW
event, has absolutely nothing to do with Caribbean Championship Wrestling."
The statement went even further, saying, Caribbean Championship Wrestling will pursue possible legal action if
the show goes on as scheduled. Julian Rivera, event sponsors and advertisers, and media outlets who accept misleading
advertising suggesting CCW’s involvement with the show may be at risk. Lee said, "We want our name off the
shows staged by this man. The way we see it, sponsors and advertisers who maintain a business relationship with
this man are helping to perpetuate fraud on the Jamaican public."
"Newspapers, radio, and television stations should consider carefully the merit of accepting Rivera’s copy.
The media has a responsibility to the public to make certain Caribbean Championship Wrestling or CCW is not mentioned
in Rivera’s commercials and print advertising.
According to the release, several wrestlers from Germany and Puerto Rico have been contacted to do the August show,
and Rivera misrepresenting himself as working for CCW. Several wrestlers, suspicious of Rivera’s claims, contacted
Lee immediately. Lee said, "Wrestlers should think twice about taking this man at his word. Using our company‘s
good name, to legitimize his own efforts, is fraud. Period. Many of the athletes plan on "no-showing"
the event, as they doubt if they would be paid properly. So, ticket holders are bound to be disappointed. They
may not see in August who they expect to see."
